With Me in Mind is the name of one of the national Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) and there are teams based in both Doncaster and Rotherham. Our service was identified following the release of the Government Green Paper (2017), “Transforming Children and Young People’s Mental Health” in which there was a focus on earlier intervention and prevention, especially in, and linked to schools and colleges. One of the core proposals from the paper was to fund new Mental Health Support Teams, which are predominantly being supervised by NHS Children and Young People’s Mental Health Services as well as local charity/private services.
We are committed to ensuring that the Mental Health Support Teams reach those most in need of the support; presently we are a working in selected educational settings across Doncaster, Rotherham and North Lincolnshire. Part of this initiative also offers support to those students not in mainstream education and includes working in some Doncaster and North Lincolnshire Special Education Schools, Doncaster Home Educated Pupils and to pupils attending certain Alternative Provisions in Rotherham and North Lincolnshire.
Early Prevention and Intervention
Our service focuses on early prevention and intervention; ensuring children and young people, their families/ carers are able to access appropriate support to improve and maintain positive emotional wellbeing, to expand and widen positive self-esteem and to increase their self-efficacy in order to create resilience. We are working in collaboration with schools/education settings /external agencies in order to enhance and improve relationships. We hope that this will support educational settings to develop a whole school approach to emotional health and wellbeing ensuring that positive mental health is recognised as everyone’s business and all pupils/adults can access an environment that develops strengths and coping skills that underpin resilience.
So, where did the name With Me In Mind, come from?
The Doncaster Young Advisors role is to help organisations and local services improve their products and delivery to make them more young people friendly. In order to get young peoples opinions, the Doncaster Young Advisors arranged a number of focus groups with children and young people in Primary and Secondary schools in the Doncaster area to collect ideas around name, logo and colour scheme for the service name. The Young Advisors then collated ideas and the With Me in Mind name and logo was born.
With Me In Mind launched officially in February 2020 and since then we have been in schools throughout Doncaster and Rotherham.
